Window Bird Feeders

When we put a bird feeder in the back yard, it's great when it attracts birds to the yard. But the sad fact is that all too often we aren't where we can enjoy the sights and sounds of those birds in our yard. While it's great to sit in a chair in the yard and take in the view, most of the time we are busy with the rest of our lives.

With that in mind, a window mount bird feeder is a great choice for most homeowners. You can put the feeder on one of your kitchen windows, or even a bedroom window, and enjoy the view without even leaving your house. It will make the birds more visible to your children as well, and putting one of these on their bedroom window can help them to learn to appreciate nature as a valuable part of our lives.

If you've got a relative or neighbor who is a shut in or not too mobile these days, this can be a great gift as well. For those who just can't get outside, this sure to be appreciated.

Some window mount bird feeders just simply mount using suction cups. You can also find some larger feeders that mount on a windowsill and can be filled from inside your home. These make great feeders for wintertime, you can feed the birds at a time when they most need the feed, and don't have to brave the weather to do it!

There's a wide variety of bird food that can be used with window feeders. Different models can be found that use pellets, seeds, mealworms, nuts, or even fruit and jelly. Of course there are window hummingbird feeders that use hummingbird food.

Most often these are used to attract smaller birds. The weight of large birds is often more than a window mount feeder can support, especially those that mount with suction cups. Examples of some smaller birds include wrens, titmice, finches, or even cardinals.

Since the window will often look like a mirror from the inside, you may be surprised at how close you can get to the birds while they are feeding since they won't be able to see inside as clearly. Try one of these window feeders, they can really increase the enjoyment you get from attracting birds to your yard!
