Hanging Bird Baths
For most of us, we spend more time indoors than we do in our
backyards. But since we are trying to attract birds to our
yard, it would be great if we could still enjoy them from
inside our homes. Or for others, we might not have a backyard
but simply an apartment or condo balcony, but would like to
attract some birds there. A hanging bird bath is a low cost
and easy way to get an attractive bird bath near our windows.
In addition, you don't have to scout out a spot in the yard,
and often they are easier to install than typical pedestal
mount bath, and since you choose the location, it should be
much easier to see.
There are many manufacturers of hanging baths, and they come
in a variety of styles and price points, so finding one that
fits your needs should be easy to do. They range from simple
ones under $20, to some intricate and ornate designs, but
generally these baths are not terribly expensive.
Mounting Hanging Bird Baths
You can mount most of hanging bird baths with a single hook.
The amount of water they hold is relatively small since most
birds will want to stand in the water, so more than an inch
or so it not needed. Less water of course means less weight.
Many hanging bird baths are made of a molded resin, which
keeps them lightweight. Some other designs use metal which
can be more attractive and certainly can reflect light more,
but may require a stronger mounting scheme. These baths can
be found in diameters of 10 to 20 inches, so if you are
concerned about mounting weight you should take a look at the
smaller units.
Another mounting choice is to use a bird feeder hook that
sticks in the ground. Check the mounting to be sure that it
will hold up in a strong wind, but you can put on of these
almost anywhere.
