Copper Bird Baths
The activity that a bird bath can draw to your yard is always
delightful. But we sometimes want something a little more
decorative than a traditional concrete or stone bird bath for
the yard. A copper bird bath in your backyard can make a
stunning visual statement. They come in a couple of different
finishes. A brushed copper finish is the more popular, as it
will retain the shiny surface that reflects the sun and
catches the eye for many years with the proper care. These
have a protective finish on the copper to keep it from
oxidizing over time. Some others use a natural copper finish,
that will age to the natural attractive verdigris patina that
copper is famous for after a while. Generally you shouldn't
try to clean this up, but is part of the natural look of the
copper. But be sure to know which finish you have when you
buy a copper bird bath.
Some of these are
solar powered bird baths
which also fountains which are powered by sunlight.
Moving water is attractive to birds, and these are a
simple way to install one because you don't have to
install power lines or keep it charged with batteries.
You do need sunlight for them to work, so the pump will
stop running without light, so proper placement of a
sensor in a sunny spot will keep your birdbath running
longer.
There are table top copper bird baths, which work great on
patio or deck, or will work on a balcony for apartment
dwellers. The free standing versions usually come with a
stand, so you can place them anywhere. Another popular style
is the
hanging bird baths, and
these are great for a balcony in you apartment or the
patio just outside your window so you can watch the
birds from inside your home.
